The Press Photographer's Year is unique. It is the only competition that recognises
and showcases the outstanding press photography taken for the UK news media, and celebrates its fourth year.
A record 7,877 entries were received, and our jury of distinguished photographers have made their edit of the best news and sports photographs taken in 2008, and have awarded sixteen prizes.
All these photographs will be unveiled at a prestigious exhibition at the National Theatre's Lyttelton foyer on London's South Bank from 4th July.
Sponsored by Canon cameras since its inception, the aim is to demonstrate once again that even in an age of rolling television news, internet and satellite communication, the traditional still image burns the keenest, fastest impression on the public conscience and is the most effective way to show the world the world as it really is.
